The History of Santa Claus

"Santa Claus is anyone who loves another and seeks to make them happy." - Edwin Osgood Grover

Santa is coming, Santa is coming! As a child, Santa was every child's hero. He was in their dreams, their hearts and kept their spirits alive to be
believers that dreams do come true. He was the one person that could modify each child's behavior each day, as he always knew when you were naughty or nice.
As children prepared their wish list and mailed it off to the North Pole, they could only hope and pray their wishes would be granted on Christmas Day.

Most of us know and remember Santa as the jolly bearded man in a red coat, with spectacles, white fur cuffed trousers, red hat with white fur, black trousers
and black boots who has the help from a team of elves and flying reindeer. He is widely known to spread holiday cheer and grant wishes to all children and families
across the world. But, the history of Santa Claus begins hundreds of years ago.

Who is the real Santa and how it did it all start?

Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, or more commonly known as Santa, is the legendary figure who is known to bring gifts to the homes of
well-behaved children on Christmas Eve into the early mornings on Christmas Day by making an annual journey around the globe. The modern Santa we know today has
evolved from traditions and stories of the historical Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas was born in Lycia, Greece, a small Roman town, which is now a part of southern
Turkey. The history of Santa Claus tells us that he was a fourth century Greek bishop and gift giver of Myra. Saint Nicholas was raised in a devout Christian family. His parents died when he was still
young, but Saint Nicholas dedicated his life to serving others.

Saint Nicholas was recognized for his good deeds by performing acts of generosity to those in need and to young children. The image of Saint Nicholas has been
transformed over the years as his spirit is truly in the eye of the believer. Throughout the centuries, many stories have evolved of whom we know as Santa today,
but all the stories ever told showcase Saint Nicholas as a protector and helper.

The History of Santa Claus Today...

Today, the spirit of Santa is still celebrated through media outlets such radio, holiday songs, TV and children's books. Holiday cheer is kept alive through local
community annual events such as holiday parades, Christmas tree farms, Christmas ornament creation, holiday cookie bake-offs, driving around neighborhoods to view
extravagant Christmas lights, ginger bread house competitions, and of course visiting Santa at your local mall or venue to share your wishes.

However, at the end of the day, Santa is there to remind all of us that the true spirit of Christmas lies in our hearts. It is about building traditions with our
family and loved ones and spreading happiness and cheer, but most of all, to never stop believing.
