Four small habits that make a big difference
From picking an ornament to opening the box — here's every step, laid out.
Keep it short
Two names and a year usually looks best. Long phrases shrink the type and can feel crowded on a small ornament.
Double-check spelling
Names are engraved exactly as typed. Take a moment to review — we can't remake typos after production.
Choose the Right Tone
- SentimentalNames, dates, "Our First Christmas"
- FunInside jokes, nicknames, funny quotes
- ClassicTraditional family names and years
Choose readable formatting
- Avoid ALL CAPS (can look harsh)
- Capitalize first letters for elegant look
- Limit special characters
- No emojis (they don't engrave well)
A little breathing room goes a long way
From picking an ornament to opening the box — here's every step, laid out.
Understanding Limits
Each custom ornament has specific character limits based on:
- Available engraving space
- Font size requirements
- Design layout constraints
Formatting Guidelines
- Text appears exactly as typed
- Standard letters and numbers work best
- Common punctuation is supported
- Special symbols may not display correctly
Great example
Line 1 · 17 / 20
Line 2 · 14 / 20

Line 1 · 17 / 20
Line 2 · 14 / 20
Anything worth remembering
Our real-time preview shows the actual ornament you'll receive — same font, same layout, same spacing. No surprises.
Little touches from our craftspeople
From picking an ornament to opening the box — here's every step, laid out.
Think long-term
Choose wording that will still feel meaningful a decade from now.
Keep it timeless
Skip trends and slang. Names, dates, and titles age beautifully.
Review before ordering
Zoom into the preview once more — a fresh look often catches typos.
Match the occasion
A memorial ornament calls for softer wording than a baby's first.
Avoid overcrowding
Fewer characters = larger type, cleaner spacing, better keepsake.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I personalize my ornament, and what are the character limits?
Personalizing is simple! Click the "Personalize Yours" button on any product page to enter your details, such as your family name, a specific year, or a short patriotic message. Character limits vary by design (typically between 15–25 characters) to ensure the engraving remains beautifully clear and readable.
Is the personalization printed or engraved on the ornament?
To guarantee museum-grade quality that will never fade, we use precision script engraving and deep-etching technology for our commemorative line. This ensures your names and dates are permanently carved into the piece, standing the test of time.
Does the ornament come ready to hang and gift?
Yes! Each America 250th ornament arrives complete with a custom woven hanging ribbon. It is beautifully presented in a premium display box nestled in velvet, making it completely ready to be gifted or immediately hung as the centerpiece of your tree.
Do you offer military or commemorative organization designs?
Our Semiquincentennial collection features designs honoring our armed forces, including specialized keepsakes like our personalized USA freedom sweatshirt 250th anniversary ornament. These are perfect for veterans, active-duty service members, and military families looking to honor their service alongside this historic milestone.
What is the typical production and shipping time for a personalized order?
Because each piece is individually designed and customized right here in the USA, custom production typically takes 3 to 5 business days. Standard shipping within the United States usually takes an additional 3 to 7 business days. We highly recommend ordering early during the busy holiday season!
Can I return or exchange a personalized ornament if I change my mind?
Because our items are custom-made and deeply etched with your unique family names or dates, we cannot accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. However, if there is a spelling mistake on our end or your heirloom arrives damaged, notify us immediately and we will rush a perfect replacement out to you.
