An Ode To Our Nightingales: Nurses' Day
Celebrating Nurses' Day
Florence Nightingale is a well-known name in the world of medical practice, as she has also been granted the title.
Founder of Modern Nursing. Her name came into prominence during the Crimean War.
With her face illuminated by the lamp, she carries at night during her rounds to check on wounded personnel, served as a beacon of hope for these soldiers.
Nightingale was well known as a trainer for nurses – during a time when nurses weren’t even a thing.
Florence was also a writer in the medical field where she wrote books that provide information on better care for patients.
These books then became a cornerstone of the nursing curriculum.
After her works became more recognized, the nurses’ pledge became known as the Nightingale Pledge.
I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully.
I shall abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and shall not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug.
I shall do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling.
I shall be loyal to my work and devoted towards the welfare of those committed to my care.
International Nurses day (and her birthday), May 12, is celebrated to honor not only to her service, but for the service of all the nurses all over the world.
